You’ve Been Outed as a Prepper…

Now What?

Almost everyone who preps has a level of Opsec that we maintain. What is meant by outed in this case, is being found out as a prepper by people who don’t share our outlook on personal responsibility and whom might be a danger to us in a time of crisis. The most careful of us and even those that are paranoid about secrecy can be inadvertently outed. People ask how I can share prepper articles and not be out. LOL

We are not talking about fooling anyone here, prepping is a life style. But I feel it’s more about what we have stockpiled or don’t have. I am not hiding that I prepare for the future. But for instance I don’t tell the neighbors that I have a generator that keeps my freezer running during the many power outages we have experienced over the years. I have had neighbors come to me for tips on keeping their frozen foods from spoiling during these longer term outages. They assume as I prepare I will have that answer for them, but not a single one has ever mentioned a generator, asked about my generator, or in any way ever indicated they could be aware I own one.

Not even when my own power has been restored while theirs has not. I should perhaps feel guilty when that happens, but I realize that if I share that prep now, it could become an issue later. I simply take ice over to a neighbor that I know must keep her insulin cool and tell her that I just bought it and am sharing rather than that I made it and will be back tomorrow and every day after until her power is restored. She is always grateful and amazed that I was able to find ice while it has been sold out all over town for days.

My stash of gas and camping gear was unfortunately discovered and that gas was taken less than a week later (Yes, I know by whom and even how) so we do have to be more careful concealing our preps than many think! I feel unprepared without that stash! But won’t replace it until I have closed that hole in my security!
