Will There Be Pandemic Related Food Shortages?
Remember the panic buying as the stay home orders began to shut down our cities and towns? It’s been almost exactly 3 months (as of the time of writing) since the first verified case here in Washington state and you still can’t beg, barrow, or steal some of the most needed pandemic supplies like disinfectant, hand sanitizer, and thermometers here in my town. Basic supplies like toilet paper and other paper products are available but in limited quantities.
My one trip to the local grocer since this began, was just a few days ago. I had to fill a prescription and decided to do a bit of restocking while I was at it.. While there I took note of things that were missing from the shelves or had buying limits on them. I was surprised to find the shelves as full as they were and by the items that were limited. Fresh fruits and vegetables were bountiful, but chicken seemed to be scarce. It was a mish mosh of abundance and scarcity in most of the isles.
So I got to wondering will these shortages get worse? Or will supply and demand even themselves out when most restrictions on businesses are lifted? Opinions on the topic are featured in the links below
