What Can’t be Canned?
Learning what can’t be safely canned is almost as important as learning how to can what can be canned. It is especially difficult for the new canner as he/she has the bug and wants to can everything they lay hands on! Some items just simply can’t be safely preserved by this method. Those things can usually be better preserved via freezing, waxing, or dehydrating. Learning which items to do which way is essential to making your preserved foods safe for your family or group when they are needed. The last thing you need on top of a crisis is for everyone to become deathly ill from eating foods that were incorrectly preserved.
Even if you have properly canned the appropriate items always check your seal, smell. visually inspect and perhaps perform a tiny taste test of any goods that you have preserved at home prior to feeding it to anyone.
