Using an AED and Giving CPR
This is subject matter literally near and dear to my heart. I am a heart attack survivor. My odds of surviving my particular situation more than 5 days were only 5% and after that surviving 2 years only 15%. I am pushing my third year of survival. I tell you this in hopes that if you find yourself in my situation or of providing aid to someone having a heart attack that you will remember my story and not give up on either yourself nor the patient.
If an AED is available know how to use it. It was used on me but it didn’t bring me back. The EMT‘s followed up with CPR and I am here today to tell the story. I was not a high risk for a heart attack. It came out of the blue. But I realize that is how it is for many people… that there is nothing so special about me that I cant find myself facing this unexpected crisis. No one gets up in the morning and says “I think before the sun sets tonight I will give having a heart attack a try”.
So just because you or someone else in your family or close community doesn’t have a known heart issues doesn’t mean that they or you can’t at any moment. Learn how to save them. Teach them how to save each other or you if needed. Don’t wait until you have a special reason to learn these techniques. See them linked below
