Successfully Bugging In

bugging in

We do a lot of talking about bugging out in a crisis. But if it is something you can’t run away from… why bug out? In my opinion bugging in just makes more sense. I am in my own territory giving me that advantage against looters or  marauders. I have more gear here than I could carry anywhere. I know the general outlook of the community and the people who live in this area. I know where to find sustainable resources here much better than I would elsewhere or along the route to a bug out location. These and many other reasons are all good ones for choosing to bug in if I am able. Of course one should always have a plan B! In my case that would be bugging out.

However, there are almost as many pit falls to bugging in as there would be bugging out. Some of the stumbling blocks for successfully bugging in are the very reasons bugging in is preferable for some of us! Because we do feel we are on our own territory we can become over confident or too comfortable and become careless about security and opsec. Or because we do know the community and the people we could place our trust in people we shouldn’t. People aren’t always as they appear and some people become someone completely different during a crisis and do things that they ordinarily wouldn’t if they weren’t afraid or overstressed. It can become a me or you situation very quickly when people feel threatened. There are also everyday things that we take for granted while on our home turf. Little things that can become big things in a SHTF scenario.

The article I am sharing with you today from Prepper’s Will at featured at the link below speaks to these issues and can help you successfully bug in.
