(8 links)
Is it really becoming a crime to be self-reliant? Most of us have heard or seen the news reports of some really surprising court orders in the recent past encroaching on what we have in the US, anyway, have always assumed were our basic rights. I will refresh your memory on a few of those mentioned in the featured article.
In Florida >> City of Orlando threatens man who planted a front yard vegetable garden
Also, Florida >> Homeowners forced to uproot home vegetable garden
This is what happened to a man stockpiling rainwater in Oregon >> Jail For Stockpiling Rainwater
and in Utah >> Catching Rain Water is Against the Law
Again, in Florida >> Women being Evicted from Home for Living Off the Grid
And of course, we have all heard the conflicting reports on the abuse of civil forfeiture >> Policing for Profit: The Abuse of Civil Asset Forfeiture
So, is it really becoming against the law to be self-reliant? Are these individual incidents that are being twisted to fear monger or a trend that we should be looking at more seriously as a society? Either way what should be done about it? Is self-reliance a crime?
