Russian Tea Recipes For Colds & Flu

Today I have two recipes for you. There are literally dozens of recipes for Russian tea. These two are my personal favorites.

Both are excellent for colds and flu, I am not a doctor, of course so I can’t tell you with scientific facts or certainty that either actually helps you recover faster, But I do know that both contain vitamin C which is known for it’s assistance in overcoming minor illnesses and maintaining good health. And that both just make you feel more comfortable from the inside out.

The first one is made from fresh organic ingredients and is one I use when the ingredients are in season.

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon + 2 cups of filtered water
  • ½ tsp whole cloves (crushed)
  • ½ tsp organic ground cinnamon
  • 4 bags of organic black tea )
  • 6 cups of organic orange juice
  • 6 cups of organic pineapple juice
  • 4 cups of organic apple juice
  • ½ cup of organic lemon juice
  • Optional but recommended – ½ to 1 cup of organic cane sugar

Directions

  1. In a large stock pot bring the water to a boil on high heat.
  2. In a separate small pot bring 2 additional cups of water to a boil then steep all 4 tea bags over low heat. This can take place while you wait for the larger pot of water to come to a boil.
  3. Once boiling add the cinnamon, cloves and sugar. Stirring until dissolved.
  4. Once all of these ingredients are combined, pour in the tea that has been brewing.
  5. Add the fruit juices to the mixture, Combine well (this is a good time to check if the amount of sugar you chose to add is enough-add more if it is too sour for your taste).
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and allow the tea to simmer for a few more minutes to make sure everything is fully mixed
  7. Store in the container of your choice (two gallons) and refrigerate.
  8. When you are ready to drink your tea. Shake or stir well to prevent separation and heat the amount you wish to serve in a separate container or by the cup.

This second is my own families preferred recipe because of it’s portability, the ease to store and make up by the cup to the strength of your preference.

Ingredients

Directions

Combine all ingredients well and store in an air tight container. (if moisture does make it into your tea mixture, it will become lumpy. It is still usable. Just grind in a bender or by hand until either the lumps are small enough to dissolve easily when water is added and heated or until it is powdery again. Then change your container to make sure it is air tight!)

To prepare the tea, add 2-3 T of the mixture to 1 C of boiling water. Use more less to your taste then cool to your desired temperature.
