What is The Purge? Well it’s a new movie that depicts a future world where for a 12-hour period in any and all crime is legalized. It’s a movie… fiction! So why are people worried???
Social media and foolish people in truth. There are small groups and young individuals sending out social media information that they intend to participate in a real life purge. They are giving dates of the “event” in different cities and states. Law enforcement is of course required to respond to any threat as credible. So in some places police presence has been intensified, people are arming themselves and preparing to hunker down for the announced period of time.

Will there be an incident or two where publicity seeking psychopaths will act out and then blame the movie. Most likely yes.
So with the hype and the increased law enforcement presence what should you do? If there are credible threats take extra precautions just as you would in a civil unrest situation.
Be aware of the things and people around you. Stay out of law enforcement’s way.
Smart Social Media During Emergencies
Most importantly don’t let fear rule you or your actions.. If you have children teach them that this kind of attention is not what they want nor is it a joke or funny. It can land them in a heap of trouble. Most importantly don’t assist in the spread of the fear. The more afraid people are the more likely they are to act foolishly and with the assumption that they are endangered.
