MIY Potted Meat: FAQs & Recipe
(2 links)
Now days when I hear potted meat I think spam or corned beef. Neither make my taste buds tingle. Although either are decent choices for stockpiling if your palate enjoys them. I do have a couple of recipes in my repertoire that call for spam that my family actually really enjoys. So I am not slamming spam by any means. But this posting is about another kind of potted meat. The make it yourself storage kind.
Years ago potting meat was a valid method of preserving meat through out a season. Once better methods were developed like pressure canning and the advent of home freezers the majority of farmers and homesteaders etc.. quit potting meat. It is a good skill to redeem and for us to know should a day come when these modern storage methods become unavailable to us for any length of time.
The following article from Bio Prepper answers a lot of questions regarding how it’s done and doing so safely is linked just below.
Forgotten Skills Worth Rediscovering: Meat Potting
I found the above blog very interesting but not detailed enough for me to actually feel comfortable potting meat myself. I am a step by step person! So I found an actual recipe with a step by step detail including pictures. Find it linked below from cooking-ez.com
