No Deal Last Minute Brexit Prepping
As of this writing Brexit is less than a week away with or without a deal. This is causing the process to become a bit frightening to many previously unconcerned citizens. I am by no means an expert on either Great Britain nor Brexit. I have been fortunate enough to be a visitor in their country many years ago and found it to be a lovely country with pleasant nice people. That being said, they are also a people who lived through the blitz of world war and a resilient lot.
Many that I spoke to or whose posts on the subject I read felt that prepping for Brexit was not necessary in part because they didn’t believe that their government would not have an exit deal in place. Now that’s a looming possibility they find themselves last minute prepping. There are commercial “Brexit Boxes” being sold for between £300 – £400 each. This converts (as of today at this time) to approximately $393.00 – $524.00 USD. Now that doesn’t sound too outrageous for emergency supplies unless you know that this box only contains 60 meals! Intended to last only 30 days. It also includes items that aren’t expected to be effected by the no deal status. Like a fire starter.
Sadly this is common when people wait hoping for the best alone without the additional step of preparing for the worst. The commercially sold “Brexit box” is actually closer to an earthquake or flood disaster preparedness box. If you still have time, I would continue to urge you to deal with the problem at hand at the moment. Go to your local market and really look at the items offered there that could be affected by the ports being jammed up for months as this takes effect. What is made in country and what comes from the European Union? Which items could see a large price increase, is that based upon the item or on the brand? Which are you perfectly willing to do without until a new deal is in place and which would you not? Then make your purchases. It’s a bit late to do a little bit at a time and if other’s have taken the last minute shopping route as well before you But certainly what you take home with you will be more useful than an emergency off grid batch of supplies. Now let me be clear, an emergency off grid batch of supplies are a good idea and you will find that after this crisis the cost of such will decline. Keep that in mind for a time when there is NO time for last minute preparations because the shops are gone.
