MIY Shagbark Hickory Syrup
I’d heard of maple syrup. But I had not heard of hickory syrup until I came across the featured recipe from Dave’s Cupboard.
I’ve heard talk on the reservation that bark has been used for generations as a healing potion. Made into tea by the elders who swear by it’s powers. Now days most of what our ancestors or the elders of many tribes used to consider magical or natural healing can be explained by science and it tends to turn out to have scientific basis. In this case it is the magnesium contained within the bark and much more enjoyable than is a modern day pill!
Use it as a grilling glaze, a meat or vegetable marinade, or as sweet goodness on your oatmeal or hotcakes! See how Dave makes his version of shagbark hickory syrup at the link below
