Improve Your Survival Chances in a Random Attack With These Five Habits
Before discussing the featured article in the post. I would like to acknowledge that the picture above is from the Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington. It was taken by media on September 23rd, 2016. On that date a lone gunman killed 5 people. Sarai Lara, age 16, a cancer survivor and fulltime student. Chuck Eagan, age 61, a maintenance worker. Belinda Glade, age 64, a probation officer. Beatrice Dotson, age 95, the mother of Belinda Glade. And Shayla Martin, age 52, a makeup artist in the mall.
These types of random attack are becoming more not less common across the world. Many say they only enter brick and mortar shops and other public buildings legally armed. Almost everyone has an opinion as to whether this aggravates the situation or is a solution. I am not posting this today with an answer nor a personal opinion to that question.
The facts are that you or a loved one may be caught in one of these scenarios. Just as an example, from those that were murdered at the Cascade Mall that day. How many women would feel comfortable sitting in a store having their makeup done by a woman with a fire arm strapped to her side? I would assume this would cause a customer to feel that the location was unsafe and the artist would lose customers. I am unaware of any western country where a 16 year old can legally carry a weapon and most parents don’t have the time to follow their teens around everywhere even if the teen would go for it. Nor would I feel comfortable with my aging mother who is losing both her sight and her hearing to be carrying open or concealed and she is younger than Beatrice Dotson was the day she was killed.
So how do you protect yourself and loved ones from random violence without giving in to the terrorist’s hope that we will all sit quaking in fear in our homes? There are things that you can do that will increase your chances of escaping alive. But they must become habit and something that is done every single time you are in any public place.
