Home Security Systems
Why You Should Have One – Which One is Best for You?
Ordinarily I am a DIY‘er. I believe that prevention is worth a pound of cure. Especially when you have a family. Nothing in my home is worth any harm to one of my loved ones. So my own first security step is to prevent the bad guys from wanting in the first place, then preventing them from getting in if they still decide to enter without permission, scaring them off if they do get in and lastly getting help asap for anyone in the home should they manage to get past all the precautions. You can see some of the inexpensive precautions I personally found for under $70 USD while working on those steps HERE.
One of the reasons I began looking at home security items was that years ago, prior to taking the precautions I talk about in the above link for items under $70. Was that while at work one day, I received a call from the police alerting me that my home had been broken into. They had kicked in my front door. (again why one of the items I recommend is door armor) but the DIY radio shack alarm system I had installed was set off when the door came in and I had it connected to a large horn on the roof! Must of scared the heck out them because they didn’t take a thing after all the effort to get in! The horn was loud enough to alert my neighbor who then called police. I now live in a more rural area then I did then. So at this time I was looking for something that would directly notify authorities rather than depending on a neighbor to do so.
Did you know that statistically you are 300 times more likely to be robbed without an alarm system? Or that the majority of people whose homes were broken into had incomes under $35,000 a year? It’s not just a crime against the wealthy anymore. But I don’t want to spend a fortune, yet I want the best system I can afford for my particular needs. But I also don’t want to do hours and hours of research to find it! Fortunately some folks over at Reviews.com did over 600 hours of research for us to figure out which systems are best.
