My grandmother used to make each of her grandchildren a pair of slipper boots very much like thee, every year as part of our holiday celebration. After her passing the tradition was gone. None of the adults at the time knew how to make them. I myself was only 12. When I saw these, I was excited to realize that I could bring back that tradition to another generation and could get the patterns to do so for free! Not just fun gifts either.
