Ebola Riots Hasten the Spread
Literally what the picture above depicts is the beginning of the end of West Point Liberia. These people think they are saving themselves and those who were quarantined from a government fraud. I can not speak to the honesty of the Liberian government and even if I could in this situation I would not. They looted and or destroyed all the safety equipment rendering this facility unable to help them later……when they learn after sleeping on the infected mattresses they looted after wearing the infected clothing that ebola is in fact real. Not just real, but through their own actions they have most likely sentenced themselves to a long agonizing death. Some may say they will get what they deserve for looting.. but what about the people they infect? No one deserves to die from ebola. This was the only center in the area that was receiving the appropriate equipment to deal with the infected and now its gone or destroyed.
Many of us shake our heads and are ever so grateful it isn’t in our home country. However, think about it from a more human nature view. There have been visitors to Africa on safari’s, on business, doing trade, visiting family, etc. from just about every country in the world. Most left and went home prior to the outbreak or at the beginning of it and thankfully were not infected as far as we know as the incubation period for them has passed. Those currently exiting the country are being tested prior to departure. But what about those who were too afraid to admit that is where they were before they flew to a 3rd country to catch their flight home? Those that have a reason not to want to tell any official where they were or why? Whether you believe there was an AIDS patient zero the Canadian flight attendant who has been labeled the seed of the epidemic or the theory that AIDS to came from Africa and was spread by the immigration of Haitians to western countries. The fact remains it did indeed find its way to the western world and there is every possibility ebola will as well.
I am an American myself so I can not and again would not speak to the feelings toward or trustworthiness of any other country’s government. I do not believe my country’s government would intentionally hide nor over dramatize an epidemic. However the words Home Land Security strike fear into my heart! I have no reason to be the subject of any investigation but we have seen through the media tactics that just seem un-American being used in the name of security. This trend concerns me and many other Americans.
Which is why unless directly exposed I would hunker down in my own home for the incubation period and avoid contact with the rest of the community should ebola come to my area. Are you and your family prepared to spend 30-60 days in quarantine within your home to prevent ending up in a quarantined center? If you aren’t now, I strongly encourage you to do so. Viruses are twisting and elusive so they can survive a multitude of treatments. If we the general public are willing to stay away from the virus by being prepared perhaps clinic such as the one destroyed in West Point won’t be necessary here.
Regardless of the whys this article saddens me a great deal, mistrust will cause hundreds of deaths and for this illness to continue its rampant spread. Be prepared people not scared. Fear causes actions like those taken by these rioters. Fear and mistrust of the doctors and their government. I will take my chances if exposed within the confines of a clinic, better there and receiving treatment and being out exposing those who love and would care for me to the very death I could suffer!
The lesson here in my opinion is that in this case fear kills. See all the details of the riot at the link below
