Earthquake Preparedness Tips
Whether you are a new resident in an area that is prone to earthquakes or if you have lived with that knowledge for years, being up to date with your preparations can make the difference between damage and total disaster. With every earthquake we experience here in the Northwestern USA I learn something new.
Truthfully the first earthquake I experienced caused a great deal of damage to the interior of my home. The majority of it was preventable. Having learned my lesson. I updated my preps to prevent most of that havoc. Attaching large pieces of furniture to the walls with earthquake brackets, using museum gel on breakable items on open shelves, adding lips to the end of pantry shelves and even simpler putting glass jars behind the heavier unbreakable containers when putting away groceries or a new batch of canning. Simple little preps saved me a mess and a lot of money when the next quake hit!
Some earthquake prevention items are expensive, like retro fitting your foundations. But the majority of it is as simple as knowing what you’re dealing with and having a plan in place for all members of the household.
