DIY Knife and Fork Security Locks
With your home, your hotel room, your dorm room, etc… all coming with and the ability to add regular locks why would you need to have extra DIY security locks? The reasons could be endless! You’re moving into a new space and who knows if the builder, previous owner, previous renter, someone known to the previous tenant or even the real estate agent could all have keys. Until you get a chance between moving boxes and setting up your new household to change the locks this extra bit of security is an easy way to sleep more soundly in your new home. Or perhaps you have an ex-spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend, or ex-roommate who may or may not still have keys? And hotel locks are a joke!
Silverware/flatware can be an inexpensive quick and easy way to add a bit of security to your location. Now the fork lock shown does show the fork cut, but you can accomplish the same thing using a butter knife rather than the end of the fork and not damage the flatware. As almost any location where you might be sleeping you most likely will find silverware available, so you don’t even have to carry anything extra with you. I myself while traveling years ago did use a butter knife between the door jam and the door to make a bad lock more secure for the night in a motel that was less than secure, and I had reason to think my privacy might be broached that evening. The pictured DIY locks with silverware don’t happen to show that particular trick and are actually more secure than that trick was, but in a pinch, it works!
