I live in an area where we have a number of natural and manmade occurrences that cause power outages. The first few times we simply roughed it out and kept the freezer and refrigerator closed as much as possible to retain the cool interior. Then we had a longer term outage that required that I find another methods of preserving things that were defrosting. After that I obtained a small generator that gives off just enough power to operate my freezer and a couple of other smaller appliances.
