Build a Get Home Bag
Why build a get home bag when you already have a bug out bag? Too many folks think they are the same thing but they are for different purposes.
Unless you are retired or work from home odds are very high that you will not be at home when a disaster strikes. This is true whether you plan to bug in or out. No one wants to go from work to bug out if they don’t have to, our families are at home or trying to get to us at home, the bulk of our gear is at home, our pets may be at home, etc..
The featured article references 9/11 and the people who did survive and or escape walking miles and miles home in high heels, without masks or water etc.. It is a lesson learned. Our get home bag should be geared to getting us home again. No matter how big or small the disaster might be.
We once aided a family stranded (as were we), on a steaming hot freeway without water. One of their young kids was in a bad way. But we had water and were able to help that child. Last I heard he came through it with just an overnight stay in a local hospital for observation. You don’t want to be that person or heaven forbid the parent of that child!
