I always think of a campfire more like a primitive outdoor stove! The warmth emitted just isn’t awesome unless you are sitting or lying right next to it. Especially if have small children or even just are a restless sleeper yourself, sleeping warm and cozy next to the campfire just isn’t necessarily safe. A gap fire is more like an outdoor furnace.
