Using Healthcare Personal Protective Equipment
If you work within the healthcare industry you are already aware of the importance of properly wearing, using and removing personal protective equipment. However, in today’s world with a number of deadly viral infections circulating among the population it might be wise for all of us to learn the procedures for protecting ourselves. Even if you are never directly exposed or are a low risk for some of these infections there is always the possibility that you could become a caregiver of someone who has been exposed or diagnosed with a viral infection.
In the recent past there was an outbreak of Ebola and a healthcare worker in Texas was diagnosed with virus after caring for a terminally ill Ebola patient. Her exposure could have happened during some extraordinary procedures performed that no nonmedical professional would have the ability nor equipment to do such as kidney dialysis. But it could’ve occurred as it did with other healthcare workers in Liberia during the removal of their PPE. So learning how to properly don and remove this protective clothing is imperative if you could be exposing yourself to any contagious disease.
For information on what protective gear you should have and know how to wear and safely remove continue at the featured video below it speaks to Ebola but the procedure is the same for any serious contagious illness that could become a pandemic.
