Learning to forage is a lifesaving skill during many types of crises. History shows with a long-term food shortage of any kind the foragers and gathers are the survivors. But not everything that grows or that is green or even that tastes good to us humans is safe for us to eat! I like the rule of 12 in particular. Learn at least 12 wild plant varieties that are safe for human consumption and all their nutritional and medicinal uses. Preferably a wild plants native to your immediate area and secondarily native to your bug out location. Then experiment with them, learn how to cook, eat and use them. Once you have those 12 continue on!

There is much to learn about the plants around us. Of all the plants in the world only about 10-15% are actually safe for human consumption in their natural state. So, use care and learn the safety rules when foraging. You can begin at the link below
