Emergency Wound Closures

One of the more frightening things about dealing with an emergency scenario is that you or someone else could be injured and medical care not available. This would mean that the first responder would be you. To better prepare yourself for helping yourself and others should there be injuries during or after a SHTF event you need to know a bit about wounds. When and how to close them can be critical information.

Not every wound should be closed and definitely all wounds are not equal regarding how they should be closed. What may be a life saving closure with one wound could cause a deadly infection and poor healing for another. Not everyone has the stomach to do emergency medical treatment but in an emergency you may surprise yourself with your ability to act and act appropriately. Strange as it sounds, stored information can suddenly become an automatic reaction in a stressful situation. Sort of like the mother who suddenly has the strength to lift a car off her trapped child.

So even if you think this is something you could never do. Be prepared in case it becomes something you have to do! Hopefully before a secondary wound closure is required you will have access again to medical care but don’t count on it. Learn now when a wound previously left open to heal due to an infection or because of the type of wound had been left to heal from the inside out.

Please do seek appropriate medical treatment as soon as it become available and if it is currently available never close a wound other than a temporary packing to stop or slow the bleeding until you can get to medically trained personnel.
