The usual banter on prepping and survival sites is to either ignore vices (yours or those of other group members) or to advise you and your group members to rid yourself of them now before a crisis event.

Whether it’s tobacco, caffeine, alcohol, a drug (legal or otherwise), sweets, or any item that at least to you brings normalcy or comfort. Yes of course it would be great to dump your vice now, but if it was as easy as that, we would have all done so already! If you have ever tried successfully or even unsuccessfully tried to stop a habit or vice, you know there are rough patches which can include mood swings, pain, other physical side effects and in some cases could even require therapy to beat.

So what if the crisis occurs when you are mid-withdrawal or before you have begun to cut out the vice? You may think it won’t effect your reaction, you would be wrong! A crisis will intensify your need or desire for the vice a hundred times over. The aftermath of that fact could be devastating to both you and your group or family.
