Yes, you can actually cook in your thermos!

What is better than a lunch that cooks while at your desk working, or dinner that simmers while your hiking or rolling out of your sleeping bag in the morning of your camping trip to find a hot  breakfast ready to eat!  Energy efficient, low cost, quick and easy. It seems to work with the same applied principals of a preheated rice cooker or a temperature controlled steamer.

Since I first learned of this method I have been told that thermos cooking is the preferred method of cooking for those living in tent cities and squatting in buildings that no longer have utilities. They prefer it as it allows them to get hot water from a public washroom or heat just water over a fire then fill the thermos the retreat from the group keeping their now slow cooking meal simmering away without the obvious smell and indicators that they have food that could have taken from them; Very much already in a SHTF scenario we all want to avoid and we should learn lessons from those who are already there.
