Hunting or butchering doesn’t allow you to take home just what you need for today or even for just next week. Even when I was a kid, my family went together with another family and purchased a cow. Come time to butcher they shared in the meat it provided. Many families and groups still do this kind of stockpiling for preparedness purposes and financial savings.
