As we discussed in a previous post Gun Ownership Deterrent or Incentive a firearm is not the choice of everyone nor legal for everyone in every country. So when and if the SHTF not only are  you going to need a self defense weapon but the ability to hunt for food. Some times even better than a firearm is a survival bow.

Better than a firearm in certain situations because they are quiet and because arrows can be easier to make than ammunition and sometimes even re-usable.
