DIY Urban Survival Raft

Most urban dwellers don’t consider a raft when putting together their “GOOD” (get out of dodge) plans. Unless they live in an area prone to flooding. Then many of us have heavy duty plastic life boats for the possibility of being unable to leave our homes with at least some of our supplies in tow. If you live on a river or near a lake this might also be something you have considered. But the majority of us assume we will ride or walk out in a bug out scenario. With a mass exodus from a particular area, this can lead to major and perhaps insurmountable gridlock. Rows and rows of stalled vehicles, out of gas motorists, and desperate people clog the highways and byways, perhaps making a water exit your last or only method of leaving the area.
There aren’t many logs just laying around in urban areas to lash together as a makeshift raft, but you may find pallets around many of the retail outlets or industrial areas of the city/town now emptied or in the process of clearing out themselves and they won’t object to your snagging a few pallets, 55 gal plastic drums, hunks of Styrofoam or even bags of Styrofoam packing peanuts…anything buoyant will do in an emergency! With these simple materials you can build your own emergency urban raft. Silas Longshot has put together a set of instructions using these materials or as similar as you are able to get under the circumstances for building a survival raft.
