8 Signs of Canned Goods Gone Bad
There is always a good bit of controversy regarding the validity and actual meaning of “expiration dates”, “best by date”, “sell by date” and “freshest by dates”. It is agreed though that the day before the expiration date is really no safer or less safe than the actual date itself! I do have a sister-in-law who is so rigid about these dates that even unopened baby wipes in their bug out bags must be replaced when it reaches the date stamped on the container! Not just set aside for another purpose not requiring fluid like… toilet paper, but actually thrown out with the garbage gone! So, I will start with these dates and an explanation of what they really mean. You can see that here >>
Do Food Expiration Dates Really Matter?
Honestly to me (just my own personal opinion) they are the use caution by dates. Anything with a date that has past is checked closely for the 8 signs that it could be bad and not just the smell and texture tests as botulism can’t be seen, smelled, nor tasted. So, if you find a can in the back of your pantry that missed out on the rotation process and or has been there since the SHTF event began without the ability to rotate, check it closely for these 8 signs and if in doubt…. throw it out!
