18 Alternatives to a Root Cellar
Before or after a SHTF event we need a method of storing food stuff. Most of us currently have a power operated system like our refrigerators and freezers. What is your plan if the grid goes down and those appliances become inoperable? Even if the grid is up and you have full use of your appliances many folks still have a entire harvest to store and some items don’t store well in freezers or long term in refrigerators.
I know I however don’t have the funds to put in a root cellar at the time. Doing so would also take space from my garden. Then we must consider that we might not be able to stay in place and hunker down after an event. We might be in another location or on the move. Neither of those possibilities eliminates the necessity of eating and storing as much as you can.
