I never understood why I have always been a bit more spooked by the idea of someone wielding a knife than by some crazed gun man. I always assumed it was because a knife attack seems more personal and definitely is more up close and intense.  As it turns out my instincts were correct, and more people attacked with knives actually die than those that are shot.
