Nifty Security Items for Your Property Under $70 USDUntitled

I recently have been upgrading my security. My once quiet super safe neighborhood is going the way of many little neighborhoods and becoming less safe and we are experiencing more theft and petty crime then in the past 20 years.

I took inventory of areas I felt were my property’s weakest points then went in search of items to make them more secure. Along the way I came across some really nifty items! Some I must admit I didn’t know existed or did know about but was surprised by the upgraded quality then the last time I saw them.

When compared to the pricy cost of a the traditional ADT or Brink system they are relatively inexpensive as well. The highest priced item is still under $70 USD! I of course did not purchase all the items I’ve chosen to show you, but I did indeed purchase a few! Clicking on the Picture will NOT obligate any purchase but will give you access to details of the product, cost, and reviews etc..

  1.  This is so cool! It is a digital peep hole. With a camera and night vision. (I really enjoy the zoom feature)

2. Teens or help yourself guest can no longer raid the liquor cabinet with bottle locks!

3.  Outlet timers allow you to vary your indoor lighting with lamps, aquarium lights etc..

4. Even if you don’t have a dog, these signs could be a deterrent to the random burglar.

5. Rather than the fake rock or under the mat, keep a spare key in a locked box making it more difficult for the uninvited to access. (I love love this product- you would have better luck bringing the door down than getting this off or open. I have 5 grown children whom I want to have access whenever they need, but didn’t want to have all those keys floating around nor have to reissue every time I changed locks. It works great!)

6. This is genius, now you can appear to have someone up and watching television without using anymore power than a night light! This one even turns itself off and on at dusk and dawn based upon the lightening. (must be set in a well lighted area during the day for the auto off to work… otherwise looks very real from even another room not just outside)
7. For some reason late model Hondas have become a hot commodity among the car thieves in my location. The older the model the less likely it has a GPS locator. This is one you can hide on or in the car and locate it!
8.  These bars have been around awhile and have been improved. Great for sliding doors or in apartments where security isn’t always the best.

9. A door stop alarm that is great for travel fits nicely in your suitcase or for apartments without great security doors.

10. This is an old trick that used to be pretty cheesy. The older model didn’t look like a real can of fruit or veggies that you would ordinarily find in a pantry. The newer model uses actual product labels. Now we know that this has been around long enough that a determined burglar would know about it. BUT how many are really going to take the time to go through every can in your pantry when nothing seems out of the ordinary?

11.  Another oldie. Placing this one in an area where you would ordinarily expect to find an outlet might make it safer. Again how many burglars are going to search out and check every outlet in the home? If I were going to use this one, I would actually plug a lamp in it without a bulb in the lamp… making it appear to be a legit outlet but with a spent bulb that hadn’t been yet replaced!

12. I have heard of people using a looped tape of a dogs bark to scare off intruders. The only problem with that is that real dogs have a bark that changes when the danger increases. There are also door bells that ring then bark to also give the elusion that the ringing door bell caused the dog to bark.  Now my own dog doesn’t stop barking until either the visitor leaves the door or I answer the door. So I don’t find them useful. This device however is motion activated and the sound changes and becomes more incessant as the intruder moves closer to the device just as a real dog would.

13.  Many many burglaries and home invasions begin with the perpetrator entering the premises by kicking in the door. Our doors are actually one of the weakest points in our security systems. This kit makes kicking in your door almost impossible! (wall would have to darn near be breached before this door would be)

14. Even with fuel costs dropping, stealing gas is still a favorite of petty thieves. If your vehicle didn’t come with a locking gas cap, you can purchase one to prevent your gas from being removed or anything other than gas going into your tank without your consent or knowledge.

15. Great little emergency light that comes on automatically when the power source is removed. Very helpful with power outages providing light assisting you in easily locating and turning on or lighting alternative light sources.

16. This is something I have been waiting for! This is a light timer for your hard wired lighting. You simply replace the on/off switch with this timer and set the timer to turn the light off or on when you want. It can be manually turned off and on when you need it as well. I feel this is a better deterrent then lamps on a regular basis unless you use lamps in your home in your daily life.

I hope seeing these products will prompt you to take your properties security more seriously and perhaps gave you ideas for the devices themselves or DIY versions of them!
